Cuddling with Cubbie

Cubbie doesn’t get as much one-on-one time with me since I adopted Teddy last year. Whenever Cubbie jumps on the couch to cuddle with me or jumps into my lap or wants to get under the covers in bed, Teddy is right there. Typical little brother – Teddy doesn’t like to be left out of anything. I often end up petting them both at the same time with one dog on either side of me.

For six years, Cubbie was an only dog. The main reason I waited so long before adopting another dog was because I didn’t want to disrupt Cubbie’s life and our routine. It was always just the two of us. We were comfortable, and we were certainly set in our ways.

Thankfully, Cubbie is great with Teddy. He doesn’t mind that Teddy is his little shadow and follows him everywhere. He doesn’t get mad at Teddy (usually), and accepts that he now has to share my attention. I do make a point of giving a little extra attention to Cubbie so he doesn’t feel like he always has to share me. I believe both my boys feel loved, which is the most important thing.

I feel as Cubbie gets older he doesn’t need me as much anymore, which is why it’s extra special to me when Cubbie and I do still get in some cuddle time. There are some days when all he wants to do is cuddle up. This photo was us on the couch recently. We were just taking a nap together. His head resting on my shoulder.

Photos like this are priceless to me. People who love their pets understand why.
